Retirees and Giving by James Mkhulu (discussions with a Gogo)

1. Why did I decide to give back to society?

I’m not skilled in what I am teaching the children I’m not an educator but I can do  understand the basics of the following, simple arithmetic – Subtraction, Division, Multiplication and Addition.

I’m a retired Operations Manager, “industrial chemistry” mainly in formulating, and developing and manufacturing plastics

This is my free time contribution to my church – Northfield Methodist Church Benoni

2. What am I doing to give back?

I interact with grade 3 ( three’s ) once a week, only 9 ( nine ) students for about 1 ( one ) hour.
We start our day by eating a fresh fruit and discussing what it is.
How and where it grows.
And how good it is for our health.
Then we start by doing only one task in mathematics “it’s the children’s choice” – What they prefer doing.
Once the one on one mathematics exercise is done, we end the day by drawing “sketch” anything of the children’s choose
Once a month I also donate fresh vegetables to the school kitchen I make the children help me take it to the kitchen and we have a chat to the chef’s. This teaches the children to always give – “they enjoy this interaction”
